Every home is unique, and even if it’s similar in certain ways to the other houses on the block, yours is distinctly yours by the way you light and decorate it. You want people to feel comfortable and invited when they step inside your house, and the best way to do that is to ensure that your foyer or entryway is properly lit. Now, if your entryway is small, you might think that there isn’t much you can do in terms of lighting and decor, but that doesn’t have to be the case! At Masterpiece Lighting in Atlanta, we can help you find lighting options for your home’s entrance, no matter how big or small it may be.

The Small Entryway

If your home’s entryway is rather small, with only a few square feet and a low ceiling, it can feel rather cramped if the light fixture hangs too low. For small spaces, consider adding a flush mount fixture that illuminates the space, and perhaps a wall sconce next to a small mirror. The additional light from the sconce and the reflection from the mirror will make the entryway seem bigger, and you won’t be taking up too much space. If the entrance leads directly to a hallway, add the same style of sconces down the hall to continue the lighting theme that’s set in the entryway.

The Medium Entryway

Perhaps your entryway or foyer leads to a staircase, or there’s a powder room off to one side. These spaces tend to be a bit larger, even if the ceiling is still only one-story tall. If you have the space on the ceiling, hang a semi-flush mount or small pendants to provide ambient light, and place some wall lamps or a thin floor lamp for additional illumination. If you have the space for it, you can add a small library table with a lamp on it and a mirror above it. The table is a great place to put keys and other items, and you can check your makeup or your hair in the mirror before you go out or after you come in.

The Large Entryway

If your home has a grand entryway, with tall ceilings and a sweeping staircase, it can seem like a challenge to light it properly. These large spaces are a great place for chandeliers or large pendant lights, and depending on the size of the space, we can help you choose the best fixtures. While the hanging lights will provide illumination for the higher areas, you’ll want to be sure there’s accent lighting closer to the floor. Again, this can be done with wall sconces or lamps, and if the foyer extends to the second floor, you’ll want to be sure there’s light that’s focused both up and down. Shadows can add dramatic effect, but you don’t want your large entrance to be so dim that it feels cramped and uninviting.

No matter what size of entryway your home has, there’s a way to light it so that it welcomes you and your guests as you step into the house. You may want it to feel cozy and charming, or grand and fascinating, but whatever the case may be, Masterpiece has the fixtures for you.
